It’s not only our clients whose lives are enhanced by Blacktown Meals on Wheels. People who give their time to Meals on Wheels say volunteering has added a new dimension and even purpose to their lives. The satisfaction of doing something practical yet personal is reward in itself and volunteers make a difference every day.
Volunteers are crucial to the operation of Blacktown Meals on Wheels. They are the lifeblood of our organisation and we depend heavily on their support. Our volunteers drive the cars and deliver meals, transport clients to our Social Groups to enjoy a meal along with other social activities. Others provide assistance with Social Group activities (such as craft, knitting and games), as well as taking on the governance role by serving on the volunteer Management Committee. The Committee is responsible for receiving government funding and ensuring decisions and actions are in the best interests of the organisation.
No matter what an individual can offer, every bit of help adds to building a happier, healthier community.
Blacktown Meals on Wheels volunteers are offered a mileage reimbursement when using their own vehicle, as well as free training sessions. We host several social events during the year, including an annual volunteer event. Our volunteers are dedicated, friendly people who make a difference in their community.
