Volunteering

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Blacktown Meals on Wheels provides essential services to those in need. The contribution of our volunteers is recognised on National Volunteer’s Day and at other events throughout the year. We value our volunteers and provide training sessions throughout the year, relevant to our organisation.
It is not only clients whose lives are enhanced by Meals on Wheels. People who give time to Meals on Wheels say volunteering has added a new dimension and a purpose to their lives.

ROLES

Volunteers are crucial to the operation of Blacktown Meals on Wheels. They are the lifeblood of our organisation and we depend heavily on their support. There are many roles a volunteer can do. Volunteers can deliver the meals, being a driver or a helper, or transport clients to our social days using our buses. Other roles include preparing meals and kitchen work, conduct social activities and assist on outings. The management committee is made of volunteers. The committee receives government funding for the running of the organisation at the local level and is responsible for its governance. Other roles include general office work, administration and social support.
No matter what an individual can offer, every bit of help adds to building a happier, healthier community.
People who volunteer at Blacktown Meals on Wheels are offered a mileage reimbursement when using their own vehicle, as well as free training sessions. We host several social events during the year, including an annual volunteer event. Our volunteers are dedicated, friendly people who make a difference in their community.
